The elders have participated in drumming activities on Canada Day.

On July 1, 2022, Canada is celebrating its National Day. ICAN Senior Association was invited to participate in the National Congress of Chinese Canadians' drumming celebration at West Edmonton Mall. This is the third time that the senior citizens have participated in drumming activities on National Day. During the pandemic in 2020 and 2021, the elders participated in Canada Day Drumming online for two years, with the 2021 Drumming event winning the Guinness World Record for the largest number of simultaneous drummers.

In 2022, the pandemic is getting better, various activities have been moved in-person, and the Canada Day drumming activity has been moved from Zoom online classroom to West Edmonton Mall. At the event, the beating of drums excited people who had been quarantined for so long during the pandemic. On that day, the Mayor of Edmonton, city councillor and President of the Chinese Canadian Association attended and took part in the leading drumming ceremony.

Before the event, Mayor Amarjeet Sohi and President of Sino-Canadian Association Dr. Donald Yu delivered congratulatory speeches respectively. The elders also arrived at the venue on time, sat on the side of the stage, followed the rhythm of the drum on the stage, participated in the hand drum activity with other members for 5 minutes, and watched the wonderful performance. The elders wore uniform costumes and beat drums in a neat rhythm, which became a beautiful scenery in the venue and successfully attracted the cameras and attention of many reporters on the spot. Being able to participate in such meaningful activities means that the ICAN Senior Association members are slowly blending into the mainstream society, which is also the pride of the seniors.

The ICAN Seniors Association was founded by Ms. Jane Cheng in August 2017 and officially registered as a non-profit organization in January 2020. It aims to help the elderly overcome multiple obstacles such as preventing loneliness, and better integrating into Canadian life, having a higher quality of immigrant pension life.

In collaboration with a number of communities, we organize training in English and computer literacy, Health care information sessions, visits and sports activities for the elderly.
